Dr Nafeez Ahmed is a political scientist specialising in international security issues. His research on international terrorism has been used by, among others, the 9/11 Commission; the US Army Air University’s ‘Causes of War’ collection (2007); the UK Ministry of Defence’s Joint Services Command & Staff College Research Guide on Counter-Terrorism and the GWOT (2008); Chatham House’s Middle East Programme. He testified in US Congress about his research on al-Qaeda Islamism in 2005, and this year advised the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on engagement with Muslim communities, on behalf of the conflict resolution charity Forward Thinking.
His books have been praised by John Pilger, Gore Vidal, Brian Appleyard, and Howard Zinn, among many others. The War On Truth was nominated for the Naples Prize, Italy’s most prestigious literary award, in 2003.
Nafeez has written and reported for the Independent on Sunday, Raw Story, Jewish Tribune, Counterpunch, ZNet, Dissident Voice, OpEd News, Online Journal, Media Monitors Network, The American Muslim, The Muslim News, Q News, and many other publications. He is a regular political commentator for radio and TV, appearing on BBC World Today, BBC Asian Network, BBC Southern Counties Radio, Channel 4, Sky News, FOX News, PBS Foreign Exchange, and Al-Jazeera English.
Nafeez is Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Research & Development in London, and Strategy Director for the Creative Education Programme at Arts Versa Consultants. He is associate tutor at the Department of International Relations, Sussex University, and has taught postgraduate courses at Brunel University’s Politics & History Unit.
