Alex's first novel, Glass, won the Betty Trask award (2016), made the long-list of the Desmond Elliott Prize (2015), featured among 10 fiction books deemed best of the season by the Independent (Spring 2015), and prompted the Guardian to name Alex as a 'New Face of Fiction' (2015).  His novella, The Impossibility of Crows, was on the long list for the Paris Literary Prize (2011).

Alex is also a commissioning editor at Oneworld Publications, former literary agent, occasional contributor to Prospect Magazine, playwright and published poet.
