About the Agency
I began my career as a publicist for books, before moving to Curtis Brown where I was a foreign rights executive, then an agent’s assistant, and eventually a senior agent.
During five years in the latter role I represented a broad range of fiction and non-fiction writers, including (to name a few who aren’t otherwise featured on this website): Brian Aldiss, Nina Bawden, The Estate of Malcolm Bradbury, Frederick Forsyth, David Lodge, David Mitchell, Philip Ziegler and Gore Vidal.
After twelve years at Curtis Brown in all, I pursued an ambition to establish my own business. Many former clients transferred to JPLA, and I have continued to acquire new clients selectively whilst maintaining an ethos of dedicated service to existing clients.
My current areas of interest are:
Fiction: literary fiction, thrillers and quality commercial in general
Non-Fiction: current affairs, memoir and biography, history, popular science, nature, arts and culture, lifestyle, popular psychology
I am for the time being a sole operator. I also work in association with an extensive network of agents who specialize in translation rights, US, TV & film rights, to ensure that each client’s best interests are catered for on an individual basis in all markets throughout the world.
I am a full member of the Association of Authors' Agents (www.agentsassoc.co.uk)
